The pain was sharp and sudden. Just more arthritis flaring up, I thought. But when the pain wouldn’t stop, an MRI revealed a cyst on my spine the size of a walnut. My primary physician, Dr. Lisa M. Mendonza, wasted no time in referring me to Kenmore Mercy Hospital for surgery.
I’ve worked hard ever since coming to America from Italy over 70 years ago. I’ve been in the food and beverage business and owned restaurants. My wife and I raised four kids. I have had a hip replacement and other procedures at different hospitals. Not much scares me, but for some reason this surgery made me very nervous.
But from the moment I stepped into Kenmore Mercy, I felt an unexplainable calm. Everyone on staff was incredibly kind and reassuring. From admissions and pre-op through surgery and post-op, I knew I was in great hands. Dr. John Fahrbach, a neurosurgery specialist affiliated with Kenmore Mercy, explained everything about the surgery and was there to speak with me in recovery. I was able to go home the same day!
